Cold Weather Payments have been triggered in parts of the UK as temperatures are set to plunge.
It means people who get certain benefits – including Pension Credit – or Support for Mortgage Interest, who live in the triggered postcode, can get £25, which could help towards the cost of keeping warm.
The Met Office has announced yellow weather warnings are in place, with snow and ice forecast in the north of Scotland and northeast of England.
It means a Cold Weather Payment has been triggered in parts of the north of England, as the spell of very cold weather is forecast to drop to zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days.

There has been a trigger for the November 28 to December 4 period, in postcodes associated with a number of different weather stations, including Bingley No 2, Redesdale Camp and Albemarle.
GB News has verified a number of postcodes where Cold Weather Payments are due – although people can check for their own individual postcode online using the Cold Weather Payment postcode checker.
People living in postcodes such as Leeds’ LS21 and LS29 will get £25 for this period if they qualify for Cold Weather Payments.
Bradford’s BD1-BD24 postcodes have also received a trigger, as have Halifax’ HX1-HX7, and Blackburn’s BB4 and BB8 to BB12.
Qualifying people who live in Newcastle’s NE1 to NE13 postcodes will get the payment, as will those in Durham’s DH1 to DH9 postcodes.
There has also been a trigger for certain postcodes via the Shap weather station, for the dates November 27 to December 3.
Eligible people who live in the Lancaster postcode LA8, LA9 and LA10 will get a £25 payment for this date.
Those living in Carlisle’s postcodes from CA1 to CA12 will also get a payment if they qualify for Cold Weather Payments.
GB News has contacted the Department for Work and Pensions asking for the full list of triggered DWP postcodes so far this winter.
Who is eligible for Cold Weather Payments?
People who get certain benefits in England, Wales or Northern Ireland can qualify for a Cold Weather Payment.
They will get £25 for each seven-day period of very cold weather in their local area between November 1 and March 31, 2024.

- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Universal Credit
- Support for Mortgage Interest
The Cold Weather Payment scheme has been replaced in Scotland, meaning qualifying people who live in Scotland may now be able to get a £50 annual Winter Heating Payment instead.
