Keir Starmer looked “lost” in his latest speech where he failed to mention the “number one issue” amongst voters, according to polling guru Matt Goodwin.
Speaking on GB News, Goodwin took aim at the Prime Minister over his “gloomy” speech where he set out his aim to “root out 14 years of rot” under the Tories.
He told Michelle Dewberry: “I thought it was a very bad speech, it was gloomy, pessimistic and depressing.
“Starmer doubled down on what he said about the riots, that much of the country are ‘mindless thugs’.

“Anyone that voices concerns about issues in Britain are simply populists that should be derided.
“One of the most remarkable things about that speech is Keir Starmer did not mention what is the number one issue among voters – immigration.

“He didn’t mention the broken borders, he didn’t mention how the country is being transformed.
“He even said the idea there was a legitimate protest was a pretence. Here he is doubling down on the narrative he had after the riots.
“He looks fundamentally out of touch with the country. I think that is why his leadership ratings are collapsing and Labour are already in a weak position.
“I think he looks lost.”

Ex-Labour MP Sion Simon disagreed with Goodwin, and said Starmer was correct to suggest many hardships are likely to come about before things get better.
“I don’t think he looks lost”, he said.
“Doubling down is consistently saying what he believes to be the case, and I think he is right.
“The mindless criminal behaviour was the work of a very small group of mindless, criminal thugs who need to be arrested.
“They don’t speak for any chunk of the country. They don’t speak for people with concerns about immigration.
“If you do have concerns about immigration, setting fire to a hostel does not address that.”
It comes as Starmer warned the upcoming Budget will be “painful” as he pleaded with Britons for patience with Labour’s plans.
He said: “There is a Budget coming in October, and it’s going to be painful. We have no other choice, given the situation that we’re in.
“Those with the broadest shoulders should bear the heavier burden, and that’s why we’re cracking down on non-doms.
“Those who made the mess should have to do their bit to clean it up – that’s why we’re strengthening the powers of the water regulator and backing tough fines on the water companies that let sewage flood our rivers, lakes and seas.
“But, just as when I responded to the riots, I’ll have to turn to the country and make big asks of you as well, to accept short-term pain for long-term good, the difficult trade-off for the genuine solution.
“And I know that, after all that you have been through, that is a really big ask and really difficult to hear. That is not the position we should be in. It’s not the position I want to be in, but we have to end the politics of the easy answer – that solves nothing.”
