A flight attendant has shared the little-known resting place for cabin crew on long-haul plane journeys – and social media users have been left seriously impressed.
Charlie Silver, who works as cabin crew for TUI, gave viewers a closer look at the cozy sleeping quarters in a TikTok video recently uploaded to her account, @silvercharlie.
In the clip, captioned ‘Sleeping at 40,000ft in the sky,’ the UK-based flight attendant revealed cabin crew are able to doze off in specifically formulated bunk beds located above the main cabin.
The hidden beds, often referred to as crew rest compartments, provide a dedicated space for rest during long-haul flights, ensuring crew members are refreshed and energised for their duties.
They’re usually designed with multiple bunks, stacked vertically, to accommodate several crew members and pilots simultaneously, though they normally take turns rotating.
While some compartments are basic, others may offer a range of features, such as privacy curtains, reading lights, storage space, in-flight entertainment systems and even climate control.
In the clip, Charlie can seen climbing into the bunk and demonstrating how she gets ready for a much-needed snooze.
She starts by fitting a freshly washed and ironed sheet onto the mattress, before placing down three small pillows.

The flight attendant then unfolds a blue fleece blanket, unties her neckerchief and hair tie and settles under the covers before fastening a seatbelt over the lower half of her body.
Over 300 viewers flocked to the comments to share their thoughts, with many calling for the space to be offered to passengers.
One person wrote: ‘I’d pay good money to have one of these instead of a normal seat,’ while another exclaimed, ‘This is so cool!!!’
Another said, ‘Crew unable to sleep should do a sideline renting out to passengers. I’d love to lie down on a long haul flight,’ while a fourth gushed, ‘This looks so cosy!’
Others were left baffled by the compartment’s existence, as one quizzed: ‘Why have I travelled long haul millions of times with TUI and never knew about these?’
Another asked, ‘Been on a TUI 787 many times, where on earth is this located on the plane?!?!’ to which the flight attendant disclosed: ‘People always think it’s a toilet.’

Although his cabin crew days are behind him, Mr Daniels still enjoys travelling and has mastered his approach to long-haul flights.
His number one piece of advice: ‘Be very mindful of what you’re bringing onboard’.
‘There’s nothing worse than being the last passenger onboard, opening up all the lockers and realising there’s no space to put your bag,’ he said.
‘Overpacking just adds more stress to you, staff and other passengers. It’s too much drama and chaos. When I travel I have my small roller bag and a little side bag I can put under the seat in front of me. That’s it. No pillow, no big jacket.’
