Many Brits move abroad in search for a better lifestyle, warmer weather or even to save money.
Olivia Mamode, 24, managed to do just that after relocating to the Spanish island of Menorca.
The Londoner secured a visa and jetted off to her new home with just a 25kg case and hand luggage.
After some time in hostels, she began renting a flat with a Spanish woman for just over £255 per month, much less than the £1,000 she coughed up in the UK capital.
Olivia told Luxury Travel Daily: ‘I don’t feel like I’m breaking the bank anymore if I go out for a breakfast or drinks, since a beer here is usually less than €3 (£2.55) and a coffee is around €1.50 (£1.28).
‘On top of that, I have very few other expenses since public transportation is free for residents in Menorca and I get everywhere either by foot or by bus.’
What’s more, most of the Brit’s hobbies are ‘inexpensive’ too and Olivia doesn’t find herself spending a lot of money to enjoy herself.
She spends her spare time exploring beautiful beaches and going on hikes.

However, Olivia has had to change the way she makes a cup of tea since moving to Menorca.
Olivia revealed: ‘I now make my tea in the microwave or in a saucepan!’
The Brit hasn’t seen an apartment so far that is equipped with a kettle – the key appliance to making a cuppa.
Olivia now works with a local programme to teach people English and is fluent in Spanish.
For Olivia, Spain now ‘feels like home’ and she is completely comfortable and settled in the country.
Although the process of moving was ‘overwhelming’ for the 24-year-old, she still found the adventure ‘liberating’.
Despite Olivia’s positive experience, Brits in general seem to be shying away from moving to Spain.
Recent research by removal company 1st Move International highlighted a 28 per cent decrease year-on-year in emigration-related searches for the sunny country.

The analysis looked at UK Google search data to investigate where Brits are considering moving to.
It compared searches between September 2023 and August 2024, to September 2024 to August 2025.
Spain has previously been a popular location for Brits to relocate to, but the research suggests they could be looking elsewhere.
