Court documents showed that Prince Harry emailed Mercer confidential information regarding his security claim against the Home Office.
The royal and Mercer are known to be friends, with both having served in Afghanistan.

Mr Justice Lane said regarding the breach: “In November 2023, the claimant breached the terms of the confidentiality ring order by emailing certain information to a partner of Schillings, who was not within the confidentiality ring, and to the Rt Hon Johnny Mercer MP.”
The judge added that Prince Harry’s barrister quickly took “action to minimise the effects of the breach” and informed the Government regarding the incident.

Prince Harry was given a legal fee reduction as the Government was punished for a delay in providing key documents.
The judge also refused Harry permission to appeal the decision, however, the royal indicated that he would take the case to the Court of Appeal.
A spokesperson for Harry said: “The Duke of Sussex will be seeking permission from the Court of Appeal to challenge the decision of Mr Justice Lane”.

The Duke of Sussex was fighting a 2020 decision by the Executive Committee for the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec) that he should receive a different degree of protection when in the UK.
The court found there had not been any unlawfulness in reaching the decision of February 28 2020 and that any departure from policy was justified.
The court has also found that there has been no unlawfulness on the part of Ravec in respect of its arrangements for Prince Harry’s visits to the UK following the 2020 decision.
The Duke of Sussex had challenged the Home Office over his right to automatic police protection in the UK after he was stripped of taxpayer-funded security.
