Speaking on rainfall expected across England and Wales, the Met Office said periods of heavy showers will likely cause surface water flooding in some places.
“Rain arriving from the south overnight Wednesday into Thursday is likely to turn heavy and persistent in places for a time during Thursday morning,” the Met Office said.
Between 10-20mm of rain is likely to have fallen fairly widely by the end of Thursday, while a few spots could see in excess of 30mm of rainfall.
“Given the widely saturated ground conditions, some low impact surface water flooding is probable, with difficult driving conditions from spray, flowing water or flooded roads in particular,” the Met Office said.
South West England was battered by heavy rainfall and flooding, causing widespread devastation across the region, in January after Storm Chandra pummelled the UK.
The Met Office said of Scotland that spells of rain, heavy at times, will develop later on Wednesday and then persist into Thursday morning.
Between 15-30 mm of rain is likely to fall quite widely, while between 30-40 mm possible in some places.
“Some melting of lying snow is also likely,” the Met Office said.
Rain could to turn to snow in areas above 300 to 400 metres later on Thursday morning in parts of Scotland.
