Bolton Wanderers have silenced critics with their impressive goalscoring record this season, manager Ian Evatt has said.
Evatt’s side are unbeaten in their past 11 matches.
“[The players] keep raising the bar and setting a new level and we have to keep striving to get better,” Evatt said.
Speaking to Radio Manchester, he continued: “This club has been around for over 140 years now and no other team has managed to score as many goals in a calendar year, so that’s great credit to us.
“We have been critiqued at times for not having enough goals or strikers not scoring enough goals, but I think we’ve silenced a few with the record we’ve got and we’ve got a few more games [in 2023] to try and set a new bar.”
Bolton are second in League One and travel to leaders Portsmouth on Monday looking to regain top spot if they overturn Pompey’s three-goal goal-difference advantage.
“I’m really looking forward to the game. It’ll be a great advert for League One football on national television. The title isn’t decided on Monday but we can go there and lay a marker down and that’s what we’ll try to do,” he added.
“What we’ve done over this time is very special. I feel like we’ve only just begun. There’s loads more to be excited about.
“We have to respect our journey but we’re very pleased with the path we’re on and we’ll keep striving to get better.”
