Thousands of electric car owners could benefit from new charging tariffs that could see them save hundreds of pounds every year.
E.ON Next has confirmed changes to its pricing structure, involving slashing rates for motorists recharging their vehicles during the daytime.
Hundreds of thousands of drivers across the UK already have electric vehicle chargers installed at home, with many using EV-friendly tariffs to slash costs.
Through E.ON Next, drivers on the Next Drive Smart and Next Drive Fixed tariffs can continue to charge their electric cars overnight from as little as £2.60.
The new Next Drive Smart tariff features two rates. The off-peak rate will cost drivers 6.5p/kWh between 12am and 6am, while the day rate (6am to 12am) will fall from 31.12p/kWh to 29.84p/kWh.
This price drop offers savings of £35, while drivers can save £509 per year with the Next Drive Smart tariff compared to the energy price cap.

“Our Next Drive tariffs have been designed to give customers greater flexibility, enabling them to charge their electric vehicles at lower‑cost overnight rates while still benefiting from competitive pricing during peak times.

Drivers charging their vehicles off-peak with the Next Drive Fixed v13 tariff can save £485 per year more than those charging on the energy price cap.
The off-peak rate will cost drivers 7.5p/kWh, while peak times also fall from 33.38p/kWh to 31.13p/kWh.
The savings are expected to help thousands of customers save hundreds of pounds a year at a time when many continue to struggle with the cost of living crisis.

New customers signing up to Next Drive Smart or Next Drive Fixed will also see further benefits in addition to cheap home charging rates.
Customers can get a free one-year subscription to Zoom EV, which offers discounts on public charging, parking and car hire.
Customers have flexibilities to cancel the tariffs without an exit fee if their circumstances change, as well as a one-off donation to the Woodland Trust to protect woodland across the UK.
