A popular biscuit snack is being recalled over fears it is contaminated with plastic shards that pose a choking hazard.

Gerber Products Company is recalling limited batches of Gerber Arrowroot Biscuits ‘out of an abundance of caution due to the potential presence of soft plastic and/or paper pieces that should not be consumed.’

The recall is limited to Gerber Arrowroot Biscuits 5.5oz products produced between July 2025 and September 2025.

The products were sold nationwide and have best before dates of October 16, 2026 through December 16, 2026.

No other Gerber products are included in the recall and no illnesses or injuries have been reported in connection to the notice.

Gerber said it is no longer working with the flour supplier that experienced the potential contamination and issued the recall that prompted Gerber’s.

The company said in the recall notice: ‘The quality, safety and integrity of our products remain our highest priority, and we take this responsibility seriously.

‘We sincerely apologize for any concerns or inconvenience this action causes for parents, caregivers and retail customers.’

The Arrowroot Biscuits are intended as ‘baby’s first biscuit’ for infants 10 months and older.

Children can begin trying solid foods at four months old, but don’t begin getting teeth typically until six months. Harder foods such as crackers and the Gerber’s biscuits should be given to older infants with teeth to chew.

The Arrowroot Biscuits are made to dissolve easily to make them safer to eat, but if there are plastic shards contaminating the cookies, babies could choke while eating the biscuits.

Gerber is advising customers with the product to not feed it to children and return it the place of purchase for a refund.

Last year, Gerber issued another recall, as well as discontinuation of all batches of its Gerber Sooth N Chew Teething Sticks due to a potential choking hazard.

The sticks were sold nationwide online and to distribution centers and retail stores across the country.

The recall involved 3.2oz of strawberry apple and banana sticks and 1.59oz of banana sticks.

Gerber issued the recall after receiving consumer complaints of ‘choking incidents.’ During the recall in January 2025, one emergency department visit was reported.
