Americans lost their desire for French champagne and perfume last year as exports to the US plunged in the face of Donald Trump’s tariffs and a weaker dollar.
Shipments of wine from France to the US fell 39 per cent in the final three months of 2025, according to data from the French customs office.
Spirits fell 47 per cent, while perfumes and cosmetics slipped 25 per cent. Wine and spirits exported to the US from the EU face a 15 per cent levy.

LVMH said last month that its wine and spirit sales fell 5 per cent in 2025.
